 Language Exchange evenings organised by Hallam Volunteering (with MLCF) 2005-6

These take place to enable people (over 18) to share their languages and practise a language they are learning. Here is a photo of the Persian table on one of the evenings with an Iranian volunteer student teaching some Farsi .

Discussion of proposed new question in Census about household language use

Discussion of status of Panjabi and Urdu and other community languages and size of language communities; description of the work of the Burngreave Language Support Agency, Carl Duisberg Centre and Sheffield International Linking Committee

Members’ social: 9 June 2005

Celebration of installation in the MLCF office: visit to the office, and pub quiz in the Three Cranes (opposite the MLCF office), Queen St

Europe Week 2005

Early years learners: 25 February

Performances by children from 5 Sheffield schools and nurseries (aged 3-8)

           

Language communities: 5 March

Performances by children from the Czech, Polish, Greek, French and Portuguese communities

Fiesta chilena (Chilean evening): 20 January 2005

Displays showing the history of the Chilean community with ‘arpilleras’ (tapestries). Also, Chilean music and poetry and food
